Frequently
Asked Questions
Why am I prompted for a password on the Academic Intranet?
The Intranet is only open to MUOT students and faculty; therefore
a username and password is required to access course materials.
An MUOT NetWare username and password will provide access to all
the course materials in the Academic Intranet.
Why doesn't my NetWare username and password work?
The Username and Password Required dialog, which displays after
selecting a particular piece of course material, requires that you
enter your NetWare username without your container. For example,
a student's NetWare username and container may be jdoe.student.
In order for this person to access course materials on the AI, he/she
would only need to enter jdoe in the User Name field.
If you are using the correct username and still
having problems, your password may have expired. Click
here to verify your NetWare account status. If your password
has expired, you can change your password from this web
page.
Why doesn't my NetWare username and password
work, even though I successfully logged into the Novell NetWare
client?
An expiration date and time is associated with your Novell NetWare
account. Therefore, if you logged into Novell NetWare at 8:30 am
and your password is set to expire today at 9:00 am, when you try
to access the Academic Intranet at 9:05, your password will be denied
because it has expired. You will need to log out of Novell NetWare,
log back in, change your password, and then you will be given access
to the Academic Intranet.
Are there times when the Academic Intranet
is off-line?
The curriculum tree and curriculum list pages use a database
which is unavailable nightly from 3:30am to 4:00am during system
backups.
Who do I call for help on the Academic Intranet?
The Information Systems Help Desk should be notified of problems
with the Academic Intranet. They will either address your problem
or forward it to someone who can assist you. The phone extension
for Information Systems is ext. 4259. If you have something of a
non-urgent nature, you can send email to webmaster@meduohio.edu.
Can I use Internet Explorer for the Academic Intranet site?
The Intranet was designed to work with Netscape 4.7, 6.2, and Internet
Explorer. However, it mayl run under different web browsers. The
user must make certain that all plug-ins and additional applications
run under their browser if they are not running Netscape or Internet
Explorer.
How do students know if content is available for a specific
course?
The Academic Intranet contains over 2,100 presentations. It is the
responsibility of the faculty member of the course to notify students
about the usage of the Academic Intranet in a course. The same is
true for taking advantage of the Discussion Center or Usenet newsgroup
for a course.

The Academic Intranet is best viewed using Netscape 4.7, 6.2 or Internet

A reported problem with using Internet Explorer with AOL to access
the Academic Intranet is related to the Usenet Newsgroups. AOL sets
the computer to read Newsgroups from the AOL Newsreader and MUOT users
cannot access the appropriate newsgroups. Preferences must be changed
in order to read MUOT Newsgroups from AOL and Internet Explorer. Follow
these steps (Only required for Internet Explorer users):
Open Outlook Express
Select from the Express Outlook menu - Tools/Account/News tab/Add/News
Enter your name, email address and news.meduohio.edu in the
field for NNTP server
You can now access the MUOT newsgroups using IE
